Abel Yakubu Breaks World Record With Sixty Hour Programming Lesson In Abuja

Abel Yakubu, a Nigerian-born cloud engineer with NexEdge Technologies in Germany, has been officially confirmed by Guinness World Records as the holder of the title for the “Longest Computer Programming Lesson.” The record-breaking session took place in Abuja from Friday, 21st November to Sunday, 23rd November 2025, spanning a continuous 60-hour duration. Yakubu, who possesses over a decade of industry experience, taught a curriculum focused on leading cloud computing platforms including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure to a group of approximately 60 students.

The marathon event, hosted at the Minds and Emotions Centre in Wuse 2, was monitored by 20 independent witnesses and streamed live to ensure total transparency. Yakubu’s achievement of 60:00:00 hours successfully eclipsed the previous global benchmark of 48 hours and 15 minutes, which had been set by Santosh Kumar and St. Xavier’s School in Ranchi, India, in January 2024. Confirming the feat on Friday, 26th December 2025, Yakubu credited the success to “teamwork, proper planning, and shared commitment,” noting that he spent two months preparing both physically and mentally for the endurance challenge.

Yakubu emphasized that his primary motivation was to inspire young Africans to develop profound digital skills in an era of rapidly increasing Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption. He described the overnight periods of the marathon as the most demanding, during which he had to maintain his voice and instructional clarity while teaching complex cloud architecture. Having trained over 200 young Nigerians in the past year alone, the engineer urged parents and guardians to proactively support their children in acquiring tech-driven skills, which he believes are essential for national development and global competitiveness.

The official recognition by Guinness World Records marks a significant visibility inflection point for Nigeria’s burgeoning technology ecosystem. Industry experts have highlighted that by choosing cloud engineering as his core syllabus, Yakubu has signaled a shift toward high-demand, employable technical education rather than abstract theory. As the news of his achievement spreads, stakeholders in the Nigerian tech space hope this milestone will attract further investment and mentorship opportunities for the next generation of software developers and cloud architects across the continent.
