Solheim Cup 2026: Team USA and Team Europe Prepare for Historic Showdown in Netherlands

The Solheim Cup, a biennial match play tournament featuring the top female golfers from Europe and the United States, is set to take place from September 11 to 13, 2026, at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, Netherlands. This event marks the first time the Netherlands will host the prestigious competition, adding a new chapter to its storied history.

Team USA’s Preparations

Team USA enters the 2026 Solheim Cup as the defending champions, having reclaimed the title in 2024 with a 15.5-12.5 victory over Europe. The team was captained by Stacy Lewis, who led the U.S. to their first win since 2017. The upcoming tournament presents an opportunity for Team USA to secure a victory on European soil, a feat they have not achieved since 2015.

Angela Stanford, a seven-time LPGA Tour winner and former Solheim Cup participant, has been appointed as the U.S. team captain for the 2026 event. Stanford’s leadership is expected to inspire the team as they prepare to defend their title abroad.

Team Europe’s Preparations

Team Europe, led by captain Anna Nordqvist, is gearing up for the challenge of reclaiming the Solheim Cup. Nordqvist, a three-time major winner with nine LPGA Tour victories, brings a wealth of experience to the role. At 37, she becomes the second-youngest European captain in the competition’s history.

Nordqvist’s extensive Solheim Cup experience, including nine appearances as a player and recent roles as vice-captain, positions her well to lead Team Europe. She expressed deep honor and excitement about captaining the team, highlighting the significance of the Solheim Cup in her career.

Both teams are finalizing their rosters based on performance metrics and captain selections. Team USA’s qualification includes the top seven players from the LPGA Solheim Cup points rankings and the top two players in the Women’s World Golf Rankings not already qualified. The European team comprises the top two players from the LET Solheim Cup standings, the top six LET members on the Women’s World Golf Rankings not already qualified, and four captain’s selections.

The Solheim Cup follows a three-day match play format, with 28 matches contested. The schedule includes foursomes and fourballs sessions on the first two days, culminating in singles matches on the final day. The team that reaches 14.5 points first secures the Cup.

As the 2026 Solheim Cup approaches, both Team USA and Team Europe are deeply engaged in strategic preparations. The leadership of captains Angela Stanford and Anna Nordqvist, combined with the rich golfing heritage of Bernardus Golf, promises an exciting and historic tournament. Fans worldwide eagerly anticipate witnessing the culmination of these efforts as the best in women’s golf vie for the prestigious Solheim Cup
