Manchester City Thrash Liverpool 3-0 As Barcelona Win And Real Madrid Drop Points

Manchester City delivered a dominant performance to crush Liverpool in the Premier League, while Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid secured contrasting results in La Liga fixtures over the weekend. Manchester City marked manager Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game in charge with a decisive 3-0 victory over reigning Premier League champions Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The impressive win, sealed by goals from Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez, and Jeremy Doku, closed the gap on league leaders Arsenal to four points. Haaland put City ahead in the 29th minute with a powerful header, atoning for an earlier penalty miss, before Gonzalez doubled the lead just before half-time with a long-range shot that deflected off Virgil van Dijk. Player of the match Doku capped off his sensational display in the 63rd minute by curling in a superb strike to put the game beyond doubt. The result sent a statement to the rest of the Premier League and left a below-par Liverpool struggling in eighth place.

In Spain, Barcelona secured a high-scoring victory to maintain pressure at the top of the La Liga table. The Catalan side defeated Celta Vigo 4-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Estadio de Balaídos on Sunday. The win ensured Barcelona capitalised on their rivals’ dropped points to stay within touching distance of the summit.

However, La Liga leaders Real Madrid were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw away to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. Xabi Alonso’s side failed to break down a resilient Vallecano defence, ending their winning streak in the Spanish league. The draw allowed Barcelona to close the gap on Real Madrid to three points in the standings, ensuring the title race remains tightly contested early in the season.
