Global sportswear giants Adidas and Puma have reportedly launched aggressive bids to become the official kit sponsors of Nigeria’s national football teams. The moves come as Nike’s long-standing agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) approaches its expiration in December 2026. Both German brands are looking to capitalize on the Super Eagles’ strong showing at the AFCON 2025 in Morocco, where the team’s commercial appeal has reached new heights.
The current Nike deal, which began in 2015 and was significantly improved in 2018, currently provides the NFF with base annual compensation and royalty payments. However, insiders suggest that Adidas and Puma are prepared to offer financial packages that far exceed Nike’s current valuation, which was once estimated at a modest $1 million annually. The NFF has previously faced challenges with kit logistics, but the newer contracts have streamlined door-to-door delivery for all national categories.
NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi confirmed that formal negotiations regarding the future of the sponsorship will commence immediately after the AFCON 2025 final. While Nike has enjoyed a decade of success—highlighted by the record-breaking 3 million pre-orders for the 2018 World Cup kit—the brand now faces its toughest competition yet. The NFF aims to leverage this bidding war to secure a deal that reflects Nigeria’s status as Africa’s premier football brand.
