Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has argued that Tinubu merits an opportunity to serve two full terms—as did his predecessor, the late Muhammadu Buhari. In a radio interview with Trust Radio, Onanuga insisted that Nigerians should not sacrifice national stability for political ambition, stating: “This president is a Nigerian. He deserves the same two terms that Buhari had. Let’s not sacrifice the country for personal ambition.”
He dismissed allegations suggesting that Tinubu’s administration marginalizes the North, calling such claims “politically motivated lies.” According to Onanuga, critics should provide verifiable data instead of generalizing that developmental projects and appointments are skewed against Northern interests.
Onanuga further urged Northern politicians to exercise patience, noting that the South had patiently waited through Buhari’s eight-year tenure. He argued that Tinubu’s leadership justifies continued governance until 2031, and advised potential Northern contenders to defer their ambitions accordingly.
Highlighting improvements in national security and federal representation, he pointed to the appointments of key Northern figures to security positions and the stabilization of regions like Birnin Gwari and Igabi in Kaduna State.
