Shettima Departs Abuja For Guinea, Switzerland

Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Friday, January 16, 2026, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of President Mamadi Doumbouya in Guinea-Conakry. The ceremony, scheduled for Saturday at the GLC Stadium in Nongo, marks a significant milestone in Guinea’s return to constitutional order after a four-year transition period following the 2021 military coup. Nigeria’s participation underscores its leadership role within ECOWAS and its commitment to regional stability. Beyond diplomacy, the visit aims to bolster bilateral trade, which has seen Nigerian exports to Guinea—predominantly manufactured and agricultural goods—grow to $3.29 million.

Following the events in Conakry, the Vice President will proceed to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, for the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF 2026). Running from January 19 to 23, the summit is themed “A Spirit of Dialogue” and will convene over 3,000 global leaders. Shettima is expected to market Nigeria’s “Renewed Hope” economic reforms to international investors and participate in high-level discussions on frontier technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and quantum computing. His mission in Davos is to position Nigeria as a prime destination for responsible innovation and sustainable growth in emerging markets.
