Shekarau: Only a Party-Led Coalition Can Dethrone Tinubu in 2027

Former Kano State Governor and PDP chieftain Ibrahim Shekarau has stated that only a coalition constructed on political parties—not on individual figures—can unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. He delivered this message in response to speculation about ADC-led candidates.

Speaking to the press, Shekarau clarified that he never meant opposition cannot prevail but emphasized that only coalitions involving established parties with legislative, grassroots, and electoral capacity can mount a credible challenge.

He recalled his own involvement in coalition talks in 2011 among parties such as ACN, CPC, and ANPP, which set the stage for the eventual formation of the APC. Such collective frameworks, he suggested, hold the best promise for meaningful political shifts.

Observers note that Shekarau’s remarks underscore concerns that personality-based alliances may falter in the face of the deeply entrenched political infrastructure of ruling parties.
