Oyo Government Debunks Reports Of Olubadan’s Death

The Oyo State government, on Monday night, dismissed widespread reports claiming that the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed on.

Some media several outlets claimed that the revered monarch had died at the age of 89.

But in a chat with the Chief Press Secretary to the State governor, he described the reports as untrue.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun, also refuted the claims, assuring the public that the Olubadan remains in good health.

“The Olubadan is hale and hearty. I spoke with one of his sons, Prince Olaseke Owolabi Olakulehin, who represented the family at the coronation committee,” Olatunbosun stated.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Gbenga Ayoade, also debunked the rumours, affirming that the monarch is in good health.

He dismissed speculations that the monarch had been flown out of Ibadan for medical treatment.

Oba Olakulehin, who received his staff of office from Governor Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024, is set to celebrate his 90th birthday on July 5.
