The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has signed a landmark agreement with the BAT Ideological Group to establish the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies. The institute, which is expected to begin operations within the next three months, will serve as a national hub for governance studies and leadership development. Director of Media Arabinrin Aderonke stated that the partnership aims to address the leadership deficit in Nigeria by providing structured academic training for future political actors.
According to the proposal submitted by convener Bamidele Atoyebi, the institute will offer academic programs at Diploma, Master’s, and Doctoral levels. It will also provide professional certifications and fellowship opportunities for established politicians looking to refine their governance strategies. LASUSTECH Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya has already provided a temporary facility on the Ikorodu campus to ensure an immediate take-off while plans for a permanent structure are finalized.
The institute is historic as it is the first university-based political institution in Nigeria named after a sitting President.Supporters of the initiative argue that President Tinubu represents an “institution of leadership” whose political philosophy and strategies warrant formal academic interrogation. The curriculum is expected to focus on grassroots mobilization, economic policy, and the “Renewed Hope” ideological framework that currently guides the federal government.
