Gbajabiamila: Let Tinubu Finish the Job—Northerners Should Back Him

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has made an appeal to former northern legislators to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections. The call was made during a recent dialogue session in Abuja, where Gbajabiamila spoke to a gathering of influential ex-lawmakers from the northern part of the country, emphasizing the need for continuity and stability.

In his address, Gbajabiamila urged the former legislators to back his principal’s bid to “finish what he started.” He described President Tinubu as a national leader who has successfully carried every region of the country along since assuming office. The Chief of Staff’s comments mark one of the earliest and most direct public appeals for the President’s re-election, indicating that the administration is beginning to mobilize support for a second term.

The appeal is seen as a strategic move to secure a crucial voting bloc ahead of the next election cycle. The northern region holds significant political weight, and securing the endorsement of former lawmakers and their networks could be instrumental in consolidating support for the President. Gbajabiamila’s emphasis on Tinubu’s inclusive leadership appears to be a direct attempt to counter growing criticisms of regional favoritism and to showcase the administration’s national focus.

The gathering in Abuja, which brought together political figures from across the North, served as a platform for the presidency to begin laying the groundwork for its campaign. Gbajabiamila’s early outreach highlights the administration’s recognition of the need for broad-based support to overcome potential political challenges in 2027. His request for their backing frames the re-election bid not just as a political aspiration but as a continuation of a national project.

The appeal also reflects the intensifying political activities happening well in advance of the next general election. As different political figures begin to position themselves and their principals for the next contest, Gbajabiamila’s proactive efforts with northern ex-lawmakers signal that the Tinubu administration is keen to consolidate its power and build a formidable coalition for a potential second term.
