Mr. Najeem Salaam, the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, has officially secured the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket for the 2026 Osun governorship election.
The emergence of Mr. Salaam, who was the sole aspirant for the office, followed the party’s primary election held on Monday at the Ultimate Civic Centre in Osogbo. The Chairman of the ADC 2026 Primary Election Committee, Mr. Emeka Nwajiuba, confirmed before the exercise that Salaam was the only person vying for the party’s ticket, based on information from the Organising Secretary’s Office and the screening exercise.
A total of 528 ADC delegates from the state’s 332 wards participated in the voting process. Announcing the results, Mr. Nwajiuba stated that 528 votes were cast, with 520 valid votes recorded in favour of Najeem Salaam and eight voided votes.
In his acceptance speech, Salaam expressed gratitude to the members and leadership of the ADC for the confidence placed in him. He accepted the mandate “with a deep sense of responsibility,” acknowledging the real challenges ahead for the party.
