Salihu Lukman, former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared Nigerians will “exert their democratic rights” to remove President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. Lukman resigned from APC in June 2024, citing internal crises and leadership failures, and now aligns with the ADC-led coalition.
Speaking on Arise TV’s News Day, Lukman stated that while he supported Tinubu during the 2023 campaign, the worsening economic reality required a change. “He has failed and we are all feeling it in how we live,” he affirmed, adding that opposition unity will not preclude efforts to ensure equity or social inclusion.
Lukman stood firm against rising worries about leadership within the coalition, warning that emerging godfathers risk replicating the flaws of old political structures. Leadership integrity, he insisted, must be preserved to maintain ADC’s democratic credibility.
Despite championing the coalition cause, Lukman stressed that economic hardship, corruption, and governance failures would determine Tinubu’s political fate. “Democracy still works. Nigerians will have their say,” he concluded.
