The Nigerian Senate has taken drastic action against Yakubu Danladi Umar, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), removing him from office due to unacceptable acts of misconduct.
This decision was made in accordance with Section 157 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended.
The Senate deemed Umar’s actions unbecoming of his position and his level of gross misconduct no longer tolerable.

This removal was supported by two-thirds of the Senators, with 74 members signing and 10 present, totaling 84 Senators.
The Senate earlier on Wednesday broke into a closed-door session to discuss Umar’s removal.
The Senate Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, in a motion, on Wednesday, cited Section 157(1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended to remove Justice Umar as the CCT Chairman.
Opeyemi at the plenary presided over by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, urged the Senate to rely on the constitutional provision, saying that there were several petitions against Umar.
