Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has delivered a double-barreled pitch for the 2027 presidency, pledging to end corruption within one month if elected and asserting he could unseat President Bola Tinubu if given the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket.
Speaking during a live X Spaces session, Amaechi vowed to resign if he failed to eradicate corruption within his first 30 days in office. He accused the current administration of mismanaging savings from fuel subsidy removal, claiming the proceeds were enriching select federal officials and governors indulging in luxury.
Amaechi further argued that his deep knowledge of Tinubu’s political strengths and weaknesses positions him as the most capable challenger. He said that while he had never directly contested against the president, he had closely observed his style over decades in politics.
Rejecting any suggestion of election rigging, Amaechi stressed that he had deliberately avoided serving on APC campaign planning committees in the past to maintain political integrity. He said his approach to 2027 would hinge on clean politics, effective governance, and the strategic use of his insider understanding of the incumbent.
The former Rivers governor also pledged that subsidy savings under his leadership would be transparently channeled into development projects. Political analysts say his twin promises—a rapid anti-corruption purge and a targeted challenge to Tinubu—are designed to project him as both a reformist and a tactician, appealing to voters dissatisfied with the current administration.
