Adeleke Calls for Security Neutrality in Osun State

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has urged security agencies to maintain neutrality and professionalism amidst the state’s political climate. Speaking at the decoration ceremony for his Aide-De-Camp (ADC), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ahmed Bio Abdulraman, the governor emphasized that Osun, being the home state of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should not become a political battleground. He made this appeal in the presence of various service chiefs, including the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Gotan, and the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Igbalawole Sotiyo.

Governor Adeleke praised the Nigeria Police Force for its consistent professionalism and commended the Inspector General of Police and the Osun Command for their discipline. He specifically highlighted Commissioner of Police Gotan’s leadership, which he credited with fostering peace and order throughout the state. During the event, the governor stressed the importance of continued synergy among all security agencies in Osun, insisting that their duties should not be compromised by political partisanship. He reiterated, “We should continue to maintain a level playing field. This is the home state of Mr. President. Mr. President belongs to all of us. Osun should not be turned into a battleground.”

The decoration ceremony also served as an opportunity for Governor Adeleke to celebrate his ADC’s promotion. He described DSP Abdulraman as an exemplary officer whose loyalty and discipline are a credit to the Nigeria Police Force.Adeleke expressed his joy over the promotion, noting that the Force remains a vital institution for Nigeria’s growth and stability. He further acknowledged the sacrifices made by security operatives across the nation, referring to the Nigeria Police as a “blessed organisation” that deserves the appreciation of both the government and the populace.

In a related but separate event, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has faced public criticism over her conduct on social media. The controversy stems from her apparent amplification of a derogatory post on X (formerly Twitter) that used ethnic slurs against Igbos, a major ethnic group in Nigeria. This occurred after Dabiri-Erewa shared a video of a trafficked Nigerian girl rescued from Libya. In response to her post, an X user, Wale Akere, made a hateful comment referring to Igbos as “monkeys” and “children of gorillas.” Dabiri-Erewa then reposted the comment with laughing emojis, which many interpreted as an endorsement of the offensive language.
