In the height of neo-fascism, inflation and climate crisis arose a woman who dared to fight for the people. Not only she is the highest ranking female official in North America’s history in the capacity of Vice President of USA since November 2020. She would be the first Asian American and African American Woman vying for the office of President to the United States of America.
Her name is Kamala Devi Harris also known as Momola for being a Stepparent to her husband Doug Emhoff’s Children. In one of her writings to mark Mother’s Day, Harris wrote on another significant role she held close to her chest that is coming alongside her husband on building consistency in their life’s journey to parenthood and not wanting to disappoint the children who are now adults and doing well in their endeavours. One can argue that this character of wanting to build consistency has brought Harris to her Presidential Nominee. Harris had a strong track record as an Attorney General as well as Senator for the State of California.
Harris 60, born in Oakland and raised to see a world beyond herself to be conscious and compassionate about the struggles of all people.
In one of her social media posts, Harris wrote that her mother always used to say, “don’t sit around and complain about things, do something. I’ve tried to follow that advice every day and live by the example she set”. The world as we know it today needs a bold Momala to tackle the climate crisis more urgent than ever. The record-breaking temperatures, hurricane, floods, storms, drought, and wildfires ravaging communities around the world underscore the grave risks and disadvantages we already face. Moreover, building a strong U.S. economy that creates jobs and underpins national security, highlights economic considerations post Covid requiring robust policy formulation, building the relationships needed to expand commercial ties that drive American prosperity based on integrity and not anarchy as some will argue that the opposition are good at inciting.
The choice is beyond individual characters however populism drove the last administration out of power prematurely which they are seeking to regain by same choice of candidate Trump. 50 Senior Republican national security officials in the US have all signed a letter arguing that Donald Trump would be a dangerous president due to lack of character, political experience and reputable value system. On one hand, some will argue that the world needs to lighten up on Donald Trump’s provocative comments. Whilst on the other hand caution is thrown into the wind at every opportunity which fears a Trump presidency could lead to terrifying proliferation in certain regions of the world.
We are in desperate times and our world needs a Momala that has spent her life fighting on behalf of people who need a voice and a chance. Narrow victories in a handful of swing states will likely determine whether Donald Trump or Kamala Harris wins the next election. The 2024 United States presidential election will be the 60th quadrennial presidential election and a turn in history. On Tuesday, November 5, 2024 a day set voters in each state and the District of Columbia will choose electors to the Electoral College, who will then elect a president and vice president for a term of four years. Let’s hope it’s Harris – Walz. The set time for the very first female president has come.
