INTERVIEW: ADC’s Vision for Ogun State and Nigeria’s Political Future

A Conversation with Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi, Organizing Secretary, ADC Ado Odo Ota Local Government


INTERVIEWER: What inspired you to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and what role do you see the party playing in Nigeria’s opposition landscape?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: I joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) because I believe in its vision for a better Nigeria. I see ADC playing a crucial role in Nigeria’s opposition landscape by offering alternative policies and leadership that prioritize citizens’ welfare.


INTERVIEWER: As the Organizing Secretary of Ado Odo Ota Local Government, what strategies do you have in place to win your LG in the next governorship and presidential elections?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: I’m focusing on grassroots mobilization, youth engagement, and addressing local issues like infrastructure, agriculture and economic empowerment.


INTERVIEWER: The ADC has been vocal about reforming Nigeria’s politics. What specific changes do you hope to bring to the table?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: We want to tackle corruption, improve transparency and ensure accountability in governance.


INTERVIEWER: How do you plan to address the economic challenges facing Ogun State, particularly in Ado Odo Ota Local Government?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: We’ll prioritize job creation, support local businesses and attract investments to boost economic growth.


INTERVIEWER: Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar have joined the ADC. How will their presence impact the party’s chances in the 2027 elections?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: Their experience, capacity and networks will strengthen our party and increase our chances of winning, especially with an Atiku/Obi ticket.


INTERVIEWER: What are the major challenges facing opposition parties in Nigeria today, and how is the ADC tackling them?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: Major challenges include resource constraints and internal conflicts. We’re going to address these by building a strong grassroots network and fostering unity.


INTERVIEWER: How does the ADC plan to mobilize support among young people and first-time voters in Ogun State?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: We’ll engage youth through social media, town hall meetings and economic empowerment programs.


INTERVIEWER: What is your take on the current government’s policies, and how do you think the ADC can offer alternative solutions?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: The current government’s policies lack capacity and aren’t delivering for Nigerians. We’ll offer alternatives focused on economic growth, security and welfare.


INTERVIEWER: The ADC has been talking about coalition-building. Which parties or groups are you looking to collaborate with, and what are the key areas of agreement?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: We’re open to collaborating with like-minded parties on issues like good governance, security reform and economic reform.


INTERVIEWER: Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, what gives you confidence that the ADC can make a significant impact at the national level?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: Our grassroots support, strong leadership and clear vision and mission give us confidence at the national level.


INTERVIEWER: What specific areas of Ogun State do you think the ADC has a strong chance of winning in 2027, and how do you plan to leverage those strengths?

COMRADE IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI: We have strong chances in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ipokia, Egbado North, Egbado South, Ewekoro, Ifo, Ijebu East, Ijebu North, Ijebu North East, Ijebu Ode, Odeda, Odogbolu and other areas. We’ll leverage our grassroots network and focus on local issues. Even over 200 million Nigerians know that we’re facing serious hardship, hunger and insecurity in the country.
