Dangote Moves Corruption Case Against Ex-Regulator To EFCC

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Farouk Ahmed, the former head of the midstream petroleum authority.

The petition, filed by Lead Counsel Dr. O.J. Onoja S.A.N. on Friday, January 9, 2026, follows Dangote’s withdrawal of the same complaint from the ICPC to “accelerate the prosecution process.” Dangote alleges that Ahmed engaged in “corrupt enrichment” and “abuse of office,” citing a lifestyle that far exceeds his legitimate earnings as a public servant.

Specific details in the petition claim that four of Ahmed’s children attended ultra-exclusive secondary schools in Switzerland, including Institut Le Rosey and Aiglon College.

Dangote’s legal team estimated that the annual tuition, travel, and upkeep for the four children totaled roughly $5 million over six years, with an additional $2 million spent on tertiary education, including a 2025 Harvard MBA. The petition urges EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede to treat the case as a deterrent to other public officers with “corrupt tendencies.”
