US-Bound Flight from Lagos Returns Due to Medical Emergency

A United States-bound flight from Lagos, Nigeria, was forced to return to its departure point due to a medical emergency involving a passenger. United Airlines Flight UA613, which was en route to Washington D.C., made an air return approximately 30 minutes into the flight after a 64-year-old male passenger suffered a seizure and did not respond to on-board treatment. The pilot made the decision to return to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos to ensure the passenger’s safety.

Upon landing, the flight was canceled because the crew had exceeded their legally mandated duty hours. Affected passengers were provided with hotel accommodations while the airline arranged a new flight. The sick passenger was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention, though his condition remains unknown.

According to a source close to the airline, the captain made an announcement for any medical personnel on board to assist the passenger before deciding to return to Lagos. The incident highlights the importance of passenger safety as the top priority for airlines.
