Ukraine has signed a long-term contract for the import of American liquefied natural gas (LNG), a deal that will remain in effect until 2050. The agreement was reached by Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state-owned oil and gas company, and is intended to ensure stable energy supply for decades.
In addition to the deal with the United States, Naftogaz also reached an agreement with the Polish company PKN ORLEN to supply at least 300 million cubic metres of gas annually. This dual strategy is designed to bolster Ukraine’s energy security and integrate its infrastructure more closely with European supply routes.
According to Naftogaz, the long-term deal is pivotal for ensuring stable deliveries, integrating the nation’s infrastructure into European LNG routes, and creating a permanent system for the supply and storage of American LNG. The move is viewed as a significant step in diversifying Ukraine’s energy sources and reducing its reliance on traditional gas pipelines.
