Tinubu Affirms Security Is Non-Negotiable, Vows To Decisively Defeat Terrorism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that his administration has achieved significant progress in tackling insecurity across the country over the past two years, while reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to defeating terrorism and ensuring national stability. In a statement posted on his social media handles on Friday, Mr Tinubu asserted that Nigeria’s security challenges, which include terrorism and violent crimes, are being addressed with “renewed vigour and strategic reforms” aimed at restoring peace nationwide.

The President acknowledged the historical depth of the crisis, noting, “We are indeed faced with terrorism – a challenge Nigeria has faced for almost two decades, and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle.” He stressed that security remains “non-negotiable,” pledging, “With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail.”

Mr Tinubu called for collective resolve among Nigerians, emphasising unity as the necessary foundation for progress. He affirmed, “Nigeria is one united family. We rise together, move forward together, and reject despair in favour of determination. Our future is far more robust and stronger than any fears we may have.” He expressed confidence that ongoing reforms in both the security and governance sectors would yield lasting results, stating his administration’s mission is to “sustain and build on our reform gains and deliver a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.”

The President issued a direct plea to international partners, urging them to support the nation’s counter-terrorism efforts. “We will spare no effort and leave no stone unturned in our mission to eliminate criminals from our society. We urge our allies to stand firmly with us as we amplify our fight against terrorism,” he said. This plea follows recent diplomatic tension and threats of intervention from the United States.

Furthermore, Mr Tinubu commended the nation’s security agencies, paying tribute to the armed forces and intelligence officers for their courage and sacrifice in defending the country. He conveyed his deep gratitude to the “brave men and women of our armed forces and intelligence community united by purpose, regardless of tribe or religion, who serve fearlessly, fight side-by-side and sometimes pay the ultimate price,” stating their commitment is the country’s strength in the fight against terror.
