THE ORGANIZATION’S MESSAGE

“The Nigerian diaspora remains one of the nation’s greatest strategic assets, contributing significantly to national development through investment, innovation, knowledge transfer, humanitarian service, and international advocacy.”
— NIDO leadership, in remarks at the conclusion of 2026 Diaspora Week
NIDO further reiterated its readiness to deepen partnerships with federal and state governments, development partners, diplomatic missions, private sector organizations and civil society groups in delivering programmes the organization said would improve the lives of Nigerians both at home and abroad. The organization framed its ongoing priorities around inclusive governance, sustainable development, economic growth, youth empowerment, healthcare advancement, educational excellence, humanitarian service and stronger global partnerships as Nigeria continues to position diaspora engagement as a pillar of national development strategy.
NIDO used the communiqué to extend appreciation to the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), participating government agencies, development partners, traditional institutions, diplomatic missions, volunteers and members of the global Nigerian diaspora, whose support the organization credited with the success of the 2026 Diaspora Week activities.
Context: NIDO’s Role in Nigeria’s Diaspora Architecture
NIDO operates as the officially recognized global umbrella organization for Nigerians living abroad, working alongside the statutory Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) as part of the Federal Government’s broader diaspora engagement architecture. The organization’s continental structure, spanning chapters across the Americas, Europe and Africa, has increasingly positioned it as a channel through which government agencies, traditional institutions and development partners seek to engage Nigerians abroad on questions of investment, remittances, humanitarian response and policy input. This year’s Diaspora Week activities, spanning child protection advocacy, healthcare and tourism policy dialogue, IDP camp support and high-level institutional visits, reflect the breadth of that role as NIDO seeks to translate diaspora goodwill and resources into concrete programmes across multiple sectors of Nigerian public life.
