Housewife And Six Children Murdered In Kano Residence

A wave of grief has enveloped the Dorayi Chiranchi quarters in Kano metropolis following a gruesome attack on Friday, January 16, 2026, which left a housewife and her six children dead. Unknown assailants reportedly stormed the residence of Haruna Bashir at Dorayi Gidan Kwari, attacking the family with dangerous weapons while the head of the household was away. The victims were identified as 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her children: Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and eighteen-month-old Abdussalam.

Local residents described the scene as one of the most horrific in the community’s history, noting that the entire household was effectively “wiped out” in a single raid. Kabiru Ibrahim, a neighbor who witnessed the aftermath, stated that the community is in shock as no immediate motive for the slaughter has been identified. The bodies were evacuated to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel officially confirmed their deaths, further devastating a neighborhood already on edge due to recent security warnings about sleeper networks in the state.

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the incident and initiated a high-level investigation. Police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to track down the perpetrators. Security presence has been bolstered in the area to prevent any retaliatory violence or further attacks, with authorities urging the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the hoodlums.
