In a shocking development, Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has declared that he remains the Speaker despite his removal. Obasa’s stance is rooted in his belief that due process was not followed during his impeachment .
Addressing his supporters at the Speaker’s Lodge in Lagos, Obasa emphasized that he is not afraid of being removed but insisted that the right process must be followed. He challenged his colleagues to do the right thing, stating, “I believe I am still the speaker until they follow the right process.”
Obasa’s impeachment occurred on January 13, 2025, when 35 out of 40 members of the assembly voted him out over allegations of misconduct and mismanagement of funds . The situation is still unfolding, with Obasa’s defiance adding a new layer of complexity to the crisis.
