The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Ladi Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 Ogun State governorship election. The arrest was confirmed by the PDP’s Ogun State Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, in a statement released in Abeokuta on Monday.
Adebayo explained that Adebutu was invited for questioning by the DSS regarding alleged disturbances during the local government elections held on November 16, 2024.
“Our leader has indeed been detained by the DSS on charges that have not yet been disclosed,” Adebayo said, urging party members and supporters to remain calm. He also noted that Adebutu is confident the situation will resolve, calling it “one of the sacrifices for democracy.”
As of 10:00 p.m. on Monday, efforts to secure Adebutu’s release, including a bail request, were unsuccessful. Adebayo added that Adebutu’s legal team has been notified and will take further action on Tuesday morning.
The PDP has called for patience and peace from its members and the public as they await developments in the case.
